Stepping Up – Raising £15,000 for Leukaemia Care
The ‘Saga’s Staying In’ programme was created to help us power through lockdown together – enabling us to build stronger connections and support each other at a difficult time. One of the main ‘Saga’s Staying In’ activities was the Hannay Family Step Up Challenge – a Saga-wide initiative created to not only raise money for a worthy cause close to our colleagues’ hearts, but to help everyone stay active and improve their mental wellbeing during lockdown.
As part of the Hannay Family Step Up Challenge, Saga employees set out to collectively walk around the circumference of the world – about 500,000 steps or 24,900 miles - to raise money for Leukaemia Care. In just three weeks, we managed to smash our target, with the business contributing a £5,000 donation. In true Saga style, we then decided to take on an even bigger challenge – setting off ‘to the moon’ to raise an additional £10,000.
Saga’s Step Up Challenge stats:
- On average, we took 32 million steps each week – that’s 16 thousand miles, equivalent to walking the Earth’s diameter twice every week!
- It took us four months to walk from Earth to the moon
- The winning team– ‘Step Change’ – walked a total of 52,936 miles - equivalent to walking around the world twice!
Well done to everyone who logged their steps and supported this huge effort and tremendous achievement. We should all feel extremely proud of what we’ve achieved together and thrilled to be donating £15,000 to Leukaemia Care.
