Our metal heating oil tank has a slight leak.
I’m told that metal tanks are no longer available and that I need to have a ‘double skinned’ plastic tank which seems awfully expensive.
Could our existing tank be repaired?
I doubt that a repair is feasible and, in any event, if it is leaking it is likely to reoccur elsewhere.
Metal tanks are still available but are much heavier than plastic and mechanical access for installation is sometimes problematic. However, double skinned or ‘bunded’ tanks are not always needed.
See full details on gov.uk/oil-storage-regulations-and-safety/home and make sure that your chosen installer is OFTEC registered to avoid the need for a Building Regulations application.
Also make sure that the price for the new tank includes removal of the old one.
