Is the rebuild cost of my house out of date?

John Conlin / 12 March 2018

A reader would like to find out how to check the rebuild cost of his house, as it has not changed for several years.

The rebuilding cost quoted in my home insurance has been unchanged for several years and I am worried that it may be out of date. Is there an easy way of checking it?

Go online to the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) website, click on the ‘rebuilding cost’ option which will take you to the BCIS (Building Cost Information Service) section and guide you through measuring and entering details of your home (age, type, geographic region etc.) at the end of which it will display the appropriate re-building cost.
