Two years ago I had a smart meter installed but did not know that it might not be usable by other energy companies so now I could lose out on cheaper energy deals. Is there anything I can do to stop this happening for example could I have it taken out?
This is a common problem. When Ed Milliband, as Energy Minister, implemented the EU directive on smart meters he did not follow other EU countries who specified a single type of meter. Here in the UK we have at least five incompatible types of smart meter.
I think your best option is to note the maker, type and model numbers of your meter (not the display unit) and check with any supplier you are thinking of as to whether that particular meter is compatible with their software.
