The Devil Wears Prada 2: “Stylish and laugh-out-loud funny”

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt reunite in a fan-pleasing fashion-filled film sequel.
It’s been 20 years since Meryl Streep played fashion icon Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, and it’s a delight to see her back, elegant as ever, at the age of 76.
Still Runway magazine’s editor-in-chief, she’s reunited with Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who’s been hired as the title’s new features editor. True to form, Miranda is distinctly frosty with her former assistant, but the pair must find a way to work together to save her beloved Runway when it comes under threat.
Reflecting real-world changes in the publishing and fashion industries, this shows Miranda facing new challenges with her team. Stanley Tucci is back as her right-hand man Nigel, and Emily Blunt returns as the acerbic Emily, who’s now working for a major luxury brand threatening to pull their advertising from Runway.
When Miranda, Nigel and Andy come to her office to strike a deal, Emily’s pleasure is barely disguised, and she delivers a series of deliciously quotable one-liners.
Seeing these four back together is this film’s biggest attraction, despite new additions including Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s husband, Lucy Liu and Justin Theroux as celebrity exes and Lady Gaga as herself. As before, Hathaway brings heart and humour to impossibly glamorous situations: from Manhattan to Milan, star-studded parties drip with haute couture.
Blunt may get the best lines, but Streep’s wardrobe is jaw-dropping, veering from comically over-the-top to dazzling when Miranda is at full power.
As a sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is not groundbreaking, but it is stylish, laugh-out-loud funny and reassuringly familiar. A great night out for fans.
