Trinny Woodall: “I don’t believe in having regrets”

It’s been 25 years since Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine burst onto our TV screens on What Not To Wear, reshaping the makeover show genre with their brutally honest opinions. And we could be about to see them again as Trinny tells Lorraine Kelly in the latest episode of Saga’s Experience is Everything podcast that they’ve been approached to bring it back.
“We were, interestingly, recently asked to do it again… and it’s a conversation that’s sort of slightly still happening,” she tells Lorraine. “When we both initially got this approach, we sort of thought, ‘Well, Susannah’s writing her third book and I’m running Trinny London and I hire 300 people and I’m the CEO, so it’s a full-time job’.
"And initially I thought, ‘No way’, but it was very nice of the people who came to see us.
“It’s interesting. If something’s presented to you it’s much easier to shut down things straight away. I made a decision last year to not say no so much. I thought let me just be open to things because things lead to things and I think things are put in front of us for reasons.
"We need to think: ‘What is the reason that opportunity is sitting there? What is that reason and what could it bring?’”
In an emotional, honest and inspiring interview, Trinny also opens up on the gruelling rounds of IVF she endured to have daughter Lyla (“It takes over your whole life”), how she beat her drug addiction and why she never has regrets.
“I don’t regret at all that I went through it. I regret things that happened, but I also don’t love the word regret,” she explains to Lorraine. “I don’t actually think it’s at all healthy to regret in life because then you’re mourning the loss of something where there’s nothing you can do about it and I think it’s an uncomfortable place to sit.
“You move forward, right? I didn’t always. I had many years of my life where I thought, ‘If I’d done that differently or if I did this differently…’ and it takes up so much space in your brain when you keep going over things.”
