What collar for a long-haired cat?

Dr Pete Wedderburn / 18 September 2018

A reader is looking for a collar that won't knot her cat's fur.

Norwegian forest cat

Question

My long-haired cat gets knotted fur around her collar. Is there a collar type better suited to long-hairs?

Answer

Try a silicon-based cat collar, Kittyrama (Kittyrama.co.uk), the first ever collar to be awarded a ‘Cat Friendly’ Award from International Cat Care, the global cat charity which champions cats’ welfare. The collars are hypoallergenic, breathable and waterproof, which minimises the moisture and heat that gets trapped between the neck and the collar. They should be less likely to cause knotted fur.
