Stretching for 12,500km (7,770 miles), Australia’s largest state runs from sparkling Indian Ocean beaches in the west to the Golden Outback with its gold rush history in the east.
In between, there’s everything from world-class wineries and World Heritage attractions to sacred Aboriginal lands where you’ll hear stories that have been passed down countless generations.
Not sure where to begin? Let us be your guide.
Shall we kick off in the state capital, Perth/ Boorloo? One of the sunniest cities in Australia, it’s the perfect place to shake off the jetlag.
There are 19 glorious beaches and vast national parks to discover here, so start with a stroll through Kings Park/Kaarta Koomba, one of the most impressive inner-city parks in the world, followed by spotting dolphins on a cruise to Fremantle/Walyalup.
A short ferry ride takes you from Perth to the nature reserve of Rottnest Island/Wadjemup. This car-free paradise is a wonderful place to while away a day, with photogenic bays and beaches, dazzling caves and salt lakes that glow rose-pink in the summer sun.
Keep a close eye out for Rotto’s most famous residents: quokkas. These adorable smiling marsupials – described as the ‘world’s happiest animals’ – are endemic to Western Australia.
Follow the Indian Ocean Coastal Road for yet more out-of-this-world experiences in Western Australia.
Stop off along the way for beautiful beaches, nature reserves and pretty seaside towns. Geraldton/Jambinu bursts with cultural attractions, while Kalbarri National Park has stunning headlands.
Further north, you’ll find Shark Bay/ Gathaagudu, a Unesco World Heritage Site and home to dugongs, reef sharks, rays and turtles.
Or why not head to Shell Beach, a rare stretch of coastline formed entirely of tiny shells, and enjoy a paddle in the clear waters at Monkey Mia? You may even spot one of its famous dolphins.
Fly from London Heathrow, London Gatwick or Manchester Airport and take advantage of a city tour in Singapore to break up your journey to Perth.
