1. Waitrose Lemon Sorbet

Winner

500ml, £3

A lovely balanced sorbet providing a long-lasting clean taste with just the right amount of zing.

Light, lemony and fresh and with a more traditional, icy texture – delicious!

2. Sainsbury's Lemon Sorbet

500ml, £2.75

An extremely appetising sorbet with a pleasantly smooth texture and a delicate, refreshing taste that delivers ample lemon flavours and the perfect sharpness.

An excellent palate-cleanser.

500ml, £2.64

Lacking in strong citrus taste and with a very smooth texture that was almost creamy rather than icy.

Deliciously palatable for those liking a light sorbet.

4. Tesco Lemon Sorbet 

500ml, £2.75

With a strong, but not overbearing, zesty lemon flavour, this was again a smooth sorbet that melted quickly in the mouth.

The overall taste had a slightly sherbet-like tang, which was both pleasant and different.

5. Aldi Gianni's Lemon Sorbet

A smooth sorbet with a strong, zingy taste. There were evident strong lime undertones, which remain on the palate as a rather tart aftertaste.

Not for the faint-hearted!

This was sweeter than most with a somewhat artificial flavour.

Smooth in texture with a light taste as the fino lemon juice did not really deliver a deep citrus tang.
