Cold-busting grapefruit and berry smoothie

A delicious combination of immune-boosting grapefruit juice, strawberries and raspberries to up your vitamin C.

While the vitamin C in the fruit may not prevent you from getting a cold, research suggests it aid immune systems in reducing a cold’s symptoms and duration.

The pumpkin seeds add zinc, which seems to help protect against viruses.

Ingredients

  • 150ml (5fl oz) pink grapefruit juice
  • 50g (2oz) frozen strawberries
  • 50g (2oz) frozen raspberries
  • 100g (4oz) low-fat Greek yogurt
  • Handful of pumpkin seeds

Method

  1. Combine the juice, yogurt and frozen berries in a blender until smooth.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas 4, scatter the pumpkin seeds on a baking tray and drizzle with a little olive oil.
  3. Roast until the seeds are golden brown – about 10 minutes.
  4. Allow to cool and add to the smoothie mix.
