Get ready to go in 2021

Don’t let the winter dampen your holiday spirit. If your travel plans for 2020 didn't come to fruition, there’s even more reason to look forward to venturing overseas this year. Lost for inspiration? Find out what you can do to keep culturally stimulated online, experience some of the warmth of faraway places, and read what we’ve been doing to make sure you’ll be fully covered as soon as you’re ready to go away for real.

With the government and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office currently advising against all but essential international travel and with most of the UK in lockdown again, most of us have little choice but to stay put. There may be exemptions when you read this and depending where you live, but always check the government's latest foreign travel advice before making any plans.

So where would you most like to go this year? Are you waiting for the cruise industry to get the green light again or is it cities of culture you’re most missing?

Take a virtual tour

The Google Arts & Culture app brings Street View to thousands of famous landmarks and museums that you can explore from the comfort of your home, including the Colosseum, the State Hermitage Museum, the Musée d’Orsay, and over 12,000 other tourist sites and buildings around the world.

You can also go further afield with a virtual visit to Machu Picchu in Peru, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, and the Taj Mahal among many other international wonders. For those looking to venture further off the beaten track, you can watch the northern lights over Lapland or even take a virtual hike to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.

Inspiration can also be found on our own travel pages here including the latest offers for our two new cruise ships, Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure.

Get covered for the real thing

With hopes building for a vaccine and for a return to some sort of normality this year, heading off on your dream holiday is becoming more of a reality. When you do book to go away next, make sure you’re properly covered and be aware that not all travel insurance policies on the market or included in other packages are the same.

Our travel insurance has always offered high levels of cover in a medical emergency should you or a travelling companion need it while you’re away. This includes getting you back home if your health needs mean you can’t travel when planned. It’s not something most of us like to think about, but it’s reassuring to know that once you’re fully covered, you don’t have to think about it.

It didn’t take us long to add cover for emergency treatment for Covid-19 to our travel policies to give you the confidence to head abroad if you chose to, and we have continued to develop our insurance to make travelling during the pandemic as safe as possible. So far, we’ve made two other valuable additions to our travel insurance: cancellation cover if you’re diagnosed with coronavirus within 14 days of your trip’s departure, and abandonment cover if you have to cut your trip short because of a positive Covid-19 test.

We continue to look at new ways to protect and support our customers, and you’ll be the first to read about our latest developments if you check in to the customer hub regularly.

Saga’s range of insurance products is designed specifically for our customers and is unique to us. Saga Travel Insurance is underwritten by Great Lakes Insurance SE, UK Branch, which meets our high standards of quality and service.
