Question
We have just had our loft insulated under a scheme from our gas supplier. Before the work was done we were asked to empty the loft. Fortunately there were only suitcases, Christmas decorations and some long outgrown toys. Now the insulation is so thick the ceiling joists are buried. Is it alright to store our bits and pieces on the insulation?
Answer
Squashing the insulation will reduce its effectiveness and could put undesirable pressure on the ceilings. Consider fitting metal struts called ‘Loft Legs’ to the joists to support ply or chipboard panels to form a storage platform above the insulation.
