Exclusive tickets for a guided day trip, including a one-night pre-trip hotel stay, ferry crossing and refreshments.
With the world having recently commemorated the Armistice to mark the centenary end of the First World War, we are offering members this incredible chance to win one of 20 pairs of tickets for an exclusive Belgium Battlefields Tour, so you too can once again honour this momentous historical occasion and its reverently-maintained historic sites.
This exclusive day trip tour will be hosted by battlefield expert Richard Morgan. The lucky winners will visit famous Belgian First World War landmarks and sites including Poperinge, the Jail and Firing Post, Essex Farm Cemetery, Langemark German Cemetery and - time-permitting - a visit to the incomparably-moving Menin Gate at Ypres.
Winners will have included in their prize a free hotel stay in the Folkestone/Hythe area, not far from the port of Dover on the night before the tour. You will then be picked up and transferred by coach to Dover for your Channel crossing, with breakfast and unlimited refreshments in the Premium Lounge on board one of the ferries of our event partners DFDS, plus a free lunch while on the battlefields tour.
Meet your tour guide - Richard Morgan QVRM
Richard joined the Army in 1982 and spent the next 30 years serving with the regular, Territorial Army and Army Reserve. In 2000 he took on the position at 2 Brigade specialist training team in a permanent post, where he was to become an integral member of the team, helping create the Army’s vision for Army 2020. For this exceptional work he was decorated in the New Year Honours list, becoming the first Junior Non-Commissioned Officer to be awarded the Queen's Volunteer Reserves Medal (QVRM).
Richard lives in Deal, Kent, with his wife and five children, dividing his time between his family and his passion for telling the story of both world wars to widely-varied groups of people.
He has more than 25 years’ experience delivering engaging and informative tours that help visitors to the battlefields relive the drama, tragedy, and indeed sense of humour of those who fought in these terrible conflicts. Richard sees his work as a quest to ensure that the message and legacy of all those who serve and have served in the British Forces in Europe and beyond is never forgotten, and to ensure we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
