Call me old fashioned, but this classic Peak District walk claims this crown.
The Old Nag’s Head pub, dating back to 1577, marks the start (or end) of the iconic 268-mile Pennine Way which follows the backbone of England from the Peak District to the Scottish Borders.
This is a challenging circular moorland walk, but it will make that pint taste even sweeter at the end. You’ll head past the pub at the start, so avert your eyes and follow the Pennine Way through fields and valley paths before heading up the former packhorse route of Jacob’s Ladder onto the open moorland.
Come off the Pennine Way here and follow the Kinder Plateau through gritstone rocks and tors until you drop down to the village of Grindstock and then return to Edale and your reward at the pub.
This circular walk allows you to enjoy views over the downs and the East Sussex coast.
You'll be stepping back in history as you follow old drovers' and smuggling routes to the sea from this small downland village.
The classic Knoydart hike is the 15.6-mile (25 km) traverse from Kinloch Hourn to Inverie.
Known as part of the “Rough Bounds” of Scotland, this stunning point-to-point trail leads through a remote peninsula with no road access, rewarding trekkers with dramatic coastal views, ancient woodland, and a pint at mainland Britain's most remote pub.
Glenariff Forest Park is a reserve of forests, rivers and glacial escarpments.
The rocky gorges and fast flowing waters of the Inver and Glenariff rivers are the main focal points, with some 22 waterfalls passed in the first kilometre of the walk alone.
Starting from Zennor, with its historic church and inn, this walk crosses a series of ancient stone-walled fields and granite stiles to the coast.
You return along a stunning but rocky section of the coast path to the village and the pub which is renown for its good food.
This circular walk goes along riverside paths, through lush meadows and over chalk grassland slopes.
The Bounty is a river-front pub, with its only access by foot or boat, and a perfect spot for a breather.
