OVER 60s TRAVEL INSURANCE

Going on a beach break or a long trip? Our travel insurance for over 60s is made to give you peace of mind – with no upper age limits.

At Saga, we believe your age shouldn't stop you from seeing the world. That's why our travel cover is made to fit your needs. This includes protection for many pre-existing health conditions.

Travel insurance for over 60s

Looking for travel insurance for over 60s? Saga is here to help. Our travel insurance has no upper age limit. We also offer cover for many pre-existing medical conditions, which can be more common in later life.

We cover lots of health issues you may have had before. This includes any illness, injury, or condition you’ve seen a doctor for or taken medicine for before you applied for a policy with us.

Just make sure to tell us when you take out your policy. If you do, you’ll be covered for emergency medical care abroad, including being brought home if needed.

Quality travel insurance for people over 60

At Saga, our travel insurance has no upper age limit. So, if you’re 60 or older, you can get a quote.

Both our Saga Standard and Saga Plus policies have a 5-star rating by Defaqto. This shows the high level of cover and service we offer.

Our Plus and Standard cover options are named Which? Best Buy Travel Insurance, with Saga Plus coming out top of the Which? Best Travel Insurance comparison table.

Depending on the level of cover you choose – Saga Essential, Saga Standard or Saga Plus – you could get:

  • Emergency medical cover from £2 million to £20 million (£2 million for UK trips)
  • Cancellation cover up to £20,000
  • Baggage cover from £1,750 to £10,000
  • Access to a 24/7 English-speaking medical helpline.

Pre-existing medical conditions

Your health needs can change as you get older – and we understand that. That’s why Saga offers travel insurance for over 60s that includes cover for pre-existing medical conditions.

Just make sure to tell us about your condition when you apply. If you do, you’ll be covered for emergency medical care while you’re away.

Depending on where you go, this cover ranges from £2 million to £20 million (it’s £2 million for UK trips).

European and worldwide travel insurance for over 60s

Saga’s travel insurance for over 60s covers trips all over the world. If you choose a single-trip policy, you’ll pick the country you’re visiting.

For annual multi-trip policies, you can choose from three regions:

  • Europe – includes the Azores, Canary Islands, Turkey, Madeira and the UK.
  • Worldwide (excluding some countries) – covers most places, but not the USA, Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean.
  • Worldwide (full cover) – includes every country.

Want to see which countries are in each region? Visit our annual travel insurance page.

Do I need travel insurance as well as a GHIC?

If you have a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) and are over 60, you should still think about getting travel insurance.

When you visit countries in the European Economic Area (EEA), your GHIC covers:

  • Emergency treatment
  • Visits to A&E
  • Routine medical care for pre-existing medical conditions.

It also works in a few other places, like Australia. But it has limits – so travel insurance is still a good idea.

For example, a GHIC doesn’t cover you for:

  • Private medical care. A GHIC only covers public health. If you’re treated at a private hospital, you must cover the costs.
  • Repatriation. If you need to be flown back to the UK due to illness or injury, the GHIC won’t cover the cost. Travel insurance will.
  • Non-medical issues. A GHIC can’t help cover costs for things like trip delays, cancellations or stolen luggage.
  • Countries outside the EU. The GHIC doesn’t work in most places outside the EU, except for a few like Australia, Montenegro and Switzerland.
  • Adventure or sports. A GHIC won’t cover sports or leisure activities during your travels. This could be anything from golf and hiking to snorkelling and water polo.

You can apply for a free UK Global Health Insurance Card on the NHS website.
