Saga Travel Insurance has a great choice of cover options for your holiday plans. If you’re heading off to the slopes, you’ll need our Winter Sports add-on to go with your Essential, Standard or Plus policy. This is for the extra things you’ll need for holidays in the snow.
Cover limits are provided on a per trip basis for our Essential cover level while both Standard and Plus cover levels are on a per person, per trip basis.

Ski pack – Up to £350 to cover your non-refundable, pre-booked ski pack should you be medically certified as unable to ski
Inability to take part – £20 per day (up to £200) in case you can’t take part in any winter sports due to illness or injury

Single trip insurance is available with no upper age limit for holidays up to 180 days for Saga Standard and Saga Plus. Cover is for up to 30 days with Saga Essential. The policyholder must be over 50 but you can add friends and family of any age to the same policy. To ensure you have cover for your ski trip, you need to select the Winter Sports add-on when you take out your policy. You’ll have the winter sports cover for the whole duration of your policy.
If you take multiple holidays each year, you may want to consider an annual multi-trip policy. When you choose the Winter Sports add-on for an annual policy, you’ll have winter sports cover in place for a maximum of 21 days in each policy year. Our annual multi-trip policies also do not have an upper age limit, although some medical conditions may mean an annual policy is not available.
Saga Travel Insurance covers most pre-existing medical conditions. If you want to travel, we’ll try our best to provide the necessary insurance so you’re fully covered. Take a look at our pre-existing medical conditions page for more information.
Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), entitles you to access state-provided healthcare in European countries at the same cost as local citizens. Although it will allow you to receive medical treatment, it should be seen as complementary to your travel insurance and not an alternative. This is particularly important to note when on a winter holiday, as neither the EHIC or GHIC cards cover mountain rescue in ski resorts, damage to ski equipment, lost baggage, and so on.
No – not at all. Just as there’s no upper age limit for Saga Travel Insurance, the same goes for our Winter sports add-on.
You can get Winter Sports cover for any destination. If you’re getting a single trip policy, you need to tell us where you’re going. For annual policies, you need to choose the region, such as Europe or Worldwide (with or without North America included).
It depends on what you’re planning to get up to while you’re there. Winter activities such as sledging and snowshoeing (see the list above) are only covered if you have the Winter Sports add-on.
Insurance companies call their additional cover for winter activities different things – and the cover can vary too. With Saga, you’re covered for more than just skiing with our Winter Sports add-on.
If you’re with a qualified guide or instructor when you’re skiing or boarding off piste, you’ll be covered.
You don’t need any extra documents to get a quote. Just get a quote as normal and add Winter Sports cover when prompted. The Winter Sports cover levels are the same for our Essential, Stand and Plus options.
There's plenty to explore and learn about our travel insurance cover.
