Defaqto, an independent financial information business, has rated Saga Travel Insurance as 5 Star. This means that the cover provided is top quality. Our insurance is specifically designed for people over the age of 50 and has no upper age limits.
As standard, you’ll get:

Single trip travel insurance for over 65s
Single trip insurance is ideal for a short break or a longer trip. You can be covered for a trip up to 120 days long - ideal for that round-the-world cruise you’ve been planning or your winter escape to warmer climes. Our single trip insurance is ideal for those over the age of 50, especially considering you can also add your family and friends who are under 50 to your policy too.
Annual travel insurance for over 65s
Annual multi-trip insurance covers you for any number of trips within a 12 month period.
Each trip can be up to 45 days long (extensions are available if you’re going away for longer) and your total time away must not be more than 120 days.
Annual insurance is ideal if you’re likely to take multiple holidays each year – it can work out better value for money. It also means that cancellation cover is already in place should you decide to take a last minute holiday or city break. As with our single trip cover, our annual cover also lets you add your family and friends who are under 50 to your policy.
Pre-existing medical conditions?
Saga Travel Insurance provides cover for many pre-existing medical conditions – so there’s no need to miss out on your holidays. You may also be able to take out annual insurance that covers your pre-existing conditions, so you can travel whenever you like.
What about the EHIC?
The European Health Insurance Card entitles you to access state-provided healthcare whilst on holiday in another European Economic Area country or Switzerland. It gives you the right to receive the same standard of care that a citizen of the country you’re visiting would receive, and at the same cost.
However, an EHIC does not cover you for all the medical costs that you could incur if you have to fly home to continue medical care, nor does it cover you for lost baggage, cancellation, or any of the other benefits of travel insurance. You might be surprised to learn that an EHIC is not valid on cruises.
Your EHIC should be seen as complementary to your travel insurance, not a substitute. You can apply for an EHIC on the NHS website. The card is free to obtain from the NHS, so be aware of websites trying to charge a fee.
