Scenic Sights of the Beautiful Moselle
Highlights of the river cruise include:
- Walking through history among the well-preserved Roman ruins in Trier
- Photographing scenic delights as we glide through the Middle Moselle
- Wandering through fragrant vineyards in the charming town of Zell
Glide along the Moselle on MS Serenade 1 and discover this river’s best-kept secrets. Scurry between timber-framed houses and cobbled streets in the shadows of Cochem’s grand castle. We travel back even further in time to explore the ruins of a one-time Roman metropolis in Trier. Between each stop, sit back and enjoy the ride with leisurely afternoons sailing past the Moselle’s most beautiful scenery. And classical music lovers will enjoy Bonn, the birthplace of Beethoven.
Day 1: UK - Cologne
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your journey to Dover, where you board your coach for the Channel crossing to Calais and onward journey to Cologne. Upon arrival, embark the MS Serenade, where light refreshments are available.
Day 2: Koblenz
Our first port of call on the trip, Koblenz has a charming old town with beautiful castles, a neoclassical Electoral Palace and markets that sprawl its string of small squares. The dock is just a short stroll from the centre and as you walk, you’ll notice the vast ruins of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the opposite bank of the Rhine. The cable car to the fortress makes for a wonderful view over the city and river (available in the summer and winter weekends). We’ll start the morning off the right way today with an included wine tasting at Deinhard Cellar Museum.
Day 3: Cochem
Huddled among the lush slopes of the Moselle Valley, decorated with a mass of timber-framed houses set on a scurry of streets and a towering medieval castle above - there may not be a more beautiful scene in Germany than the town of Cochem (and there’s some stiff competition). We’ll spend some time today exploring the 12th-century castle together, before enjoying the local wine with another tasting.
Day 4: Bernkastel
Resting in the heart of the beautiful Middle Moselle, Bernkastel is a quintessential medieval German town. Life is unhurried and simple pleasures prevail. It’s one of those places where it’s better to simply ‘be’ than ‘do’. Spend your morning here slowly wandering the beautiful cobbled streets, feasting your eyes on the old-time architecture and maybe stopping for a coffee (or beer) in one of the squares to really soak up the small-town ambience. If you really want something to do, join us on an optional city walk.
Day 5: Trier
One of Germany’s oldest cities with an impressive number of UNESCO-listed sites (eight!), you can explore the ‘Rome of the north’ on an optional guided tour. Or see the pastel-hued city centre in Hauptmarkt square for yourself. Well-preserved townhouses create a mix of Renaissance, baroque and classic architecture. Further afield, the remnants of a Roman metropolis can be found with a number of ancient sights, including the majestic Porta Nigra gate.
Day 6: Zell
Our next stop on the enchanting vineyard-wrapped slopes of the Moselle is Zell, a charming wine-producing town of old. Wander through the selection of pretty-fronted shops and pick up a bottle or two as a souvenir.
Day 7: Bonn
We’ll arrive in Bonn this morning for a walking tour taking in the Beethoven monument, the Romanesque Minster Cathedral, the University of Bonn, and the baroque City Hall. Naturally, we’ll also stop outside Beethoven’s birthplace. The afternoon is free to explore.
Day 8: Cologne - UK
After breakfast we board our waiting coaches for the return journey to Calais and Channel crossing. Upon arrival in Dover, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
