Outbreak of infectious disease

If your travel plans are disrupted by an outbreak of infectious disease, help is at hand with Saga Travel Insurance.

If you cancel your holiday after catching an infectious disease

If you contract an infectious disease, such as swine flu, and have to cancel your trip, as long as you took out Saga Holiday Insurance before contracting the disease, we will pay up to £10,000 cancellation cover. This is provided that you’ve been diagnosed by a medical professional and have a medical certificate proving that your condition will not allow you to continue travelling, or that it would be dangerous to do so.

If you’ve booked a trip to a place which the World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised against visiting

If you’ve booked your holiday independently i.e. not through a bonded tour operator, and you are due to travel to a country to which the WHO has advised against all but essential travel, Saga will provide cover under the Cancellation section of the policy. This is provided that such advice came into force after you purchased this insurance or booked the trip, whichever is later. Cancellation cover pays up to £10,000 for any irrecoverable unused pre-paid accommodation, car hire, flights or other travel arrangements, where you can’t obtain a refund. You will need to obtain proof of unused pre-paid costs to make a claim.

If you contract an infectious disease abroad

If diagnosed with an infectious disease while abroad, you or a relative should call the medical emergency helpline for initial advice. Full cover will be provided for medical expenses incurred while you’re abroad, including repatriation if necessary.
