Airport lounges - are they worth it?

Dubbed the travel industry's "best-kept secret", airport lounges are the ultimate way to ensure your holiday gets off to a flying start.

Contrary to popular belief, airport lounges are not just for first-class business travellers; they are available to anyone searching for a relaxing haven to while away a few hours before their flight.

Booking an airport lounge will certainly mean you get value for money; imagine this: unlimited drinks and snacks, a selection of newspaper and magazines to read, free wi-fi and a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the terminal.

Avoid airport chaos

UK airports see around 235 million passengers pass their terminals every year, meaning they're very busy places to be. Terminals can often have an air of pre-travel chaos, full of screaming children, flight information blaring in your ears and hard seats. Cafes and shops can also be a tad on the expensive side.

Airport lounges allow you to escape the madness and retreat to a calm and secluded environment with comfortable armchairs and sofas, as well as being close to all your flight's information, televisions and other entertainment facilities.

Some airport lounges have dress codes and only accept best behaviour, so you will only be surrounded by like-minded people. They're also the perfect place to escape the mayhem for timid flyers.

More affordable than you'd think

For around the same price as a book, snacks and coffee in the terminal, you could get the VIP key to the airport lounge. What's not to love?
