The festival of Diwali

Visit Thailand over the full moon of the 12th Thai month and witness thousands of floating lanterns during the Loy Krathong Festival

Beautiful loyus shaped rafts

Thailand’s Loy Krathong festival draws people to that country’s waters, every November, for a gentle, magical festival.

Thanks are given all over Thailand to the goddess of water, in the shape of ‘krathongs’, beautiful little lotus shaped rafts that are placed into rivers and lakes.

Each one is ornately and carefully bedecked with incense, candles and flowers.

Water-bound festival of lights

It is water-bound festival of lights, which is a moving and thought-provoking sight when you see thousands of krathongs bobbing further and further away into the distance.

Legend has it, too, that if the candlelight on your krathong remains visible until it disappears beyond the horizon, then you’re going to have a lucky year ahead.

Try it yourself, if you’re ever touring Thailand in November.
